Scope of Services for Birth Support Care

Contractor will perform birth doula care services to Company’s clients. Contractor will use Company’s software application (to be installed on Contractor’ personal device) to schedule Contractor’s availability to perform such prenatal and postnatal appointments. Contractor shall create and update a quarterly schedule and communicate with six (6) weeks notice to Company, any changes to Contractor’s schedule of availability.

Contractor must provide proof of doula training and complete continuing education as offered (at least 4 hours per year). Contractor will continuously provide current infant CPR training certification (it expires every two years).

Contractor will offer hands-on physical and emotional care with evidence-based labor and birth comfort measures and education that nurture the client’s unique birth choices, the client’s family members’ involvement, and the client’s own self-determination. Contractor will continuously accompany the client in labor to provide physical, emotional and educational support. Contractor will work for the client, not the care provider, or the hospital. Contractor will not provide clinical or medical tasks, such as blood pressure or fetal heart rate monitoring. Contractor will support the client to make decisions by providing information, space and support, but will not make decisions for the client. Contractor is not a licensed medical provider, and cannot offer the client medical advice or make a diagnosis.

Contractor’s responsibilities include being on call for the client 24 hours a day during the on-call window disclosed via email prior to the client signing the Birth Doula Contract. Contractor will maintain a backup doula from within the Company. Contractor will carry their cell phone at all times during the on-call window and will not leave the Birmingham area unless it is an emergency, then back up doula support will be utilized. Contractor will arrive within 2 hours of the client’s call if contacted within the on-call window. Contractor will provide the client with unlimited email/phone/text support from the date of this contract until the client’s birth.

Contractor will provide two (2) prenatal preparation sessions in the client’s home or another meeting place agreed to by all parties in advance (if time allows). The prenatal preparations sessions will address topics including, but not limited to: help designing a birth plan, discussion of choices in childbirth, comfort measures and coping methods, and discussion of postpartum adjustment and expectations. Contractor has resources available to them within Birmingham Born and within the community for appropriate referrals to address any specific concerns that arise in the client’s conversations that are outside of Contractor’s scope of practice.

Contractor will provide support at the client’s home and/or the hospital depending upon the client’s preference. Contractor will provide continuous labor support from the time the client ask her to come until at least 1 hour after the client’s baby is born. If the birth exceeds 18 hours, you are entitled to call in your prearranged back-up. Finally, Contractor will provide a postpartum visit or visits to discuss the birth, answer and questions the client might have, and provide breastfeeding support, scheduled at the client’s convenience, within four weeks of the client’s birth. Contractor is able to connect Client with other postpartum support offered by Birmingham Born at the client’s request.

Contractor is required to make client’s notes on the Company’s software within 24 hours after each visit or contact with client.
